Floor-standing centrifuges are typically selected when laboratories require higher capacity, greater speeds, or larger rotor options than benchtop units can provide. They are well suited for high-throughput workflows and larger sample volumes.
Capacity should reflect the number of samples you process per run and the container formats used, such as tubes, bottles, or blood bags. For example, laboratories running batch workflows may require rotors that hold multiple tubes, microplates, or large-volume bottles in a single cycle. It’s also worth considering whether your workload is likely to increase, as selecting a centrifuge with additional capacity or interchangeable rotors can help support future throughput.
In addition to capacity, it’s worth considering maximum speed or RCF, rotor compatibility, and whether refrigeration is required for temperature-sensitive samples. You should also check that the centrifuge supports the tube sizes or container formats used in your workflow, such as conical tubes, microplates, or bottles.
